(More customer reviews)I have owned this unit for a week which included a roadtrip and I must say that this device is one of the greatest sound enhancing products I have bought for either my computer, tv, or car.

First I will say that I own a SUV with the stock system and stock speakers.I self installed the Sony xav-70bt, and I am a huge sony fan...so I am a little biased towards their products.Now on to the unit.After installation when you turn the unit on you get your first experience on how unbelievable the video is.I saw this unit in a store next to the new Pioneer flagship unit and the new Kenwood upper ranged double din unit (both costing over $1000) and there was no comparison in the contrast ratio or color quality.This unit truelly stands out as an in-dash unit with HD quality.

Now onto the sound.I have always done custom stereo/speaker units on all of my vehicles.I have replaced all the speakers in my old Jeep attached to a mediocre Aiwa amplifier and found that the quality of sound was just OK.One of the reasons I chose the sony xav-70bt was because of the many sound features this unit offers.Besides repeating the specs sony.com has I will say that the listening position feature when used correctly creates a surround sound experience that I feel compares to top of the line quality (and I have stock speakers!)The low pass and high pass features create crisp clean sound and low non distorting bass with all genres of music.What amazes me is that with the four speakers in the car the Xav creates this fifth "ghost" speaker in the middle of your car and when you close your eyes you will think that the speaker exists...its amazing.

Lastly on to the features.The usb connection does not list the fact that the unit will only play the first 2000 songs of that device.(My 32gb flash drive is useless after the first 4gb)This feature is just plain stupid if you ask me...and has not been advertised anywhere.As an alternative people that have ipods can play their full library through their ipod, but for anti-ipod-ites a Sony Mp3 player will also do the trick.

One of the surprises I got when opening the box was that there was an included microphone for the Bluetooth feature.Let me tell you that the extra money you spend for the BT over the Xav-60 is well worth the money.With cops stepping up their cell phone tickets a unit like this serves the purpose very well.During the roadtrip I was able to keep my phone in my pocket and talk and make calls with simple, and very intuitive buttons.Not only this, but the person on the other line doesn't even know im in my car...and I called a lot of people to test it...it works great. Actually better then great.

Overall..A++.This unit belongs in any music enthusiast who wants to enhance their car rides.

(More customer reviews)This review may help someone like me who is not knowledgeable about GPS and is looking for basic functionality.I was looking for a unit that is portable (so I could also use it for walking or switch cars) and has a widescreen display, so I settled on comparing aGarmin Nuvi 650 Personal Travel Assistant for North America and aPlenio VXA-5000 4.3-Inch Touch Screen Car Navigation System with Bluetooth.

1.Audio - The Plenio does not have text to speech functionality,meaning the Plenio will announce "Turn left in 500 feet," while the Nuvi 650 will announce "Turn left onMain Street in 500 feet." I found the Plenio confusing if there were two possible left turns close to each other, and the display didn't always help. (See "Display").

2.Display- The Plenio display appeared dim and difficult to read on bright days, even at the brightest setting.The Nuvi had a brighter, easy to read display even when driving toward sunlight.When a turn is announced, the text of the street name on the Plenio is small and difficult to read; on the Nuvi the street name is announced and the visible text is larger, bolder and easy to read.This also makes it easier to keep track of cross streets when operating in "tracking mode" rather than inputting a destination.

3.Portability- The Garmin is thinner and lighter.The Plenio's suction mount is more substantial, but it has to be to hold up the device.

4.Controls-The Plenio has volume up and down controls, on the Garmin these are only accessible with some difficulty through the touch screen.

5.Accessories- The Plenio includes an FM transmitter, (sound can play through your FM radio) and Bluetooth; to get this functionality with the Garmin, a trade up to the Garmin Nuvi 660 Pocket Vehicle GPS Navigator and Personal Travel Assistant is necessary.The Plenio includes an AC charger, a useful tool in a portable GPS.If you have a mini USB AC charger, you canuse it with the Garmin.

6.Waypoints- The Garmin allows only one waypoint (stopover on the trip); multiple waypoints are available on the Plenio.

7.**** Satellite reception- The Plenio has an internal antenna while the Garmin has a foldaway flip up antenna flap.The Plenio was totally incapable ofgetting a satellite fix, and therefore useless, while inmy wife's car (she has a metallic layer in the windshield as some cars do);the Garmin had no such problem.The Garmin also could fix while indoors.The Garmin allows the user to turn on "WAAS" which is a combined satellite and ground GPS mode that is more accurate than satellite alone; I haven't seen that WAAS makes a difference to a basic user like me.The Garminseems to get a fix from a cold start about 25% faster than the Plenio.

8.Points of interest and maps-The Garminmaps (v.8) seemed "less out of date" than the Plenio. (maybe 2 years out of date versus 3-4 years).The Garmin has a more substantial list of points of interest (POI's).The Plenio allows you to program the unit to show your choice of POI's (such as all gas stations and/or restaurants) as icons on the map, and bring up more information ( name, phone number) by touching the icon; the Garmin will provide thisinformationfrom a separate search menu.

To summarize, the Plenio had more bells and whistles which I willingly traded in for the much improved basic functionality of the Garmin.

(More customer reviews)So after reading a ton of reviews on Amazon, I realized that a lot of the reasons people rated something positive or negative was because they were comparing their new GPS to an older one.So to be fair, this is my first GPS, so I have nothing to compare it to.First off, it arrived from Amazon in three days using their free standard shipping, which was great.It looked brand new and included every accessory you would need, AC and DC chargers, USB cable, travel case, window mount and dash mount adapter, along with some software to help get you started.

Like some of the other reviewers, the first thing I did was upgrade the firmware to v.4.60.It took me about 10 minutes which included registering the unit with Magellan, which is required to download the upgrade.Since I didn't use it before the upgrade, I can't really speak to the benefits, but I haven't had any issues with the unit freezing up or crashing.I also signed up for the 3 month Traffic Service trial online.

Overall, the menus are very intuitive and easy to use and for the price, really can't be beat.Comparable Garmins seem about twice as much.The unit starts up fast and is quick to determine routes and re-routes.The only negative thing I've noticed is it does take longer to start up after parking the vehicle in a garage as opposed to on the street, either way, 30 to 45 seconds vs. 10 to 15.The traffic service is surprisingly accurate and updates constantly.The accuracy of the maps and POI's seems to be about 2 to 3 years off, which from what others say is about average for units of this price.Mine came loaded with S/W version 29.Magellan is selling an upgrade to version 31 on their website for $80 and calls it their 2008/2009 map.So I'm guessing this is the 2006/2007 map.

The Bluetooth syncs up fairly easily to make and receive calls, but I could not get it to sync up my phonebook or text messages with either of two different Motorola cell phones.The volume is pretty weak and call clarity is about what you could expect, but in a pinch, it makes a decent hands-free device.Can't really be used with the windows down.Overall, for $129 with free shipping, I think this is a great little device and have had no issues with getting it refurbished, although be aware it does only come with a 90 day warranty.Hope this helps.

Garmin Suction Cup Mount for Nuvi (010-10723-03) Review

(More customer reviews)This suction cup mount is absolutely horrible.I shouldn't say that...it's fantastic for about 3 weeks, then it's all down hill.Mine held great for about 3 weeks, then kept falling off with the sun pounding down on it.I cleaned the windshield and cleaned the suction cup, still falls off.Then yesterday my wife wanted to borrow it so I went to take it off my windshield and what do I find?The suction cup was literally glued to my windshield.It came off in pieces, and there's many stuck to the windshield still.Now of course it won't work at all.It isn't like I live in Nevada or something, where it's 110 degrees every day in the summer, to deteriorate the material (not that it should then either).This thing is made of some CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP material. Unbelievable.I've had my radar detector mounted on the windshield for 4 years.It's fallen off only a handful of times (maybe twice).So this thing gets 1 star.Only because I can't give it zero stars.It's too bad I can't find some other brand that makes one, because this thing is absolute JUNK and a waste of $$.
